“I have lost over half a stone in weight and feel so much fitter in myself. ”
I retired in 2014 at the age of 55 after working 35 years in the NHS, the majority of this time working in Mental Health. For the last 10 years I’ve worked as parts of a team as a Control & Restraint (C&R) instructor, teaching C&R to NHS workers, from full courses to one day breakaways.
After about 18 months I decided that I wanted something to do for myself, but didn’t know what. I have a friend who dose Krav Maga in Southend, so after looking on the internet at your short clip I spoke with him regarding this, I then found a 3 session introduction for £20, so thought I would give it a go. Once applying, I received an e-mail from Paul Dwyer welcoming me and arranging to meet me at Basildon sporting village on said day.
On arrival I was met by Paul Dwyer who welcome me and then it was straight into the warm up, which I must admit was challenging, yet that’s what I expected, I wanted a challenge.
After our warm up Paul paired me with someone nearer my own level, my first session was kicks, punches and defences from knife attacks (what a first session!). After all this Paul and I spoke again where he explained Krav Maga, the cost of regular training and what I should expect out of it. I told Paul that needed to think about it, over my next 2 sessions, I also told Paul that I would most likely be only doing 1 session a week.
Well, 12 weeks on from this and I love it, everyone who I have been paired with has been so helpful. I am now doing 3 session a week, 2 @ Basildon and 1 @ Rayleigh, I have lost over half a stone in weight and feel so much fitter in myself. It has also giving me something to talk about and to look forward to.
I would highly recommend Krav Maga to anyone who’s thinking about any form of MMA/Self- Defence but I feel it gives much more than just this, as I said, weight loss, much fitter, an outlet, and of course to meet new people is always good. I wish I knew about this before my daughter travelled to America I would have made her attend.
Just try the 3 sessions for £20, you`ll be hooked.
See you in class, Paul
